MANILA – Fair weather and isolated rain showers will prevail over most parts of the country while five areas expected to see scorching temperatures due to a danger level heat index.

Heat index or what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air, will peak at 43°C in Sangley Point, Cavite; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Virac, Catanduanes, Dumangas, Iloilo and La Granja in La Carlota, Negros Occidental, said weather forecaster Chenel Dominguez during the 5 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Under danger level or 42°C to 51°C heat indices, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely.

Continued exposure could also cause heatstroke.

Meanwhile, a heat index of 40°C is expected in Metro Manila, particularly at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City and the PAGASA Science Garden in Quezon City.

No low pressure area was monitored inside and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but two prevailing weather systems will cause rains over some areas.

The frontal system affecting extreme Northern Luzon will bring rains over Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao.

The easterlies affecting the rest of the country will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in flash floods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

"Fair weather will prevail over the rest of the country. Expect warm weather at noon and the afternoon," Dominguez said.

Dominguez added that isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms are also likely, especially in the afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, moderate winds and moderate coastal waters will prevail over Northern Luzon.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said.  (PNA)
