FDA warns vs unregistered food supplement

THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public on Friday, October 13, 2023, against the purchase and use of an unregistered food supplement being sold in the market.

In its Advisory 2023-2182, the FDA warned the general public not to purchase and consume “Love Thy Health Collagen & Glutathione Gummies – Dietary Supplement” due to its being an unregistered product.

"The FDA verified through online monitoring or post-marketing surveillance that the abovementioned food supplement is not registered and no corresponding Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) has been issued," said the FDA.

"The FDA warns all healthcare professionals and the general public not to purchase and consume the unregistered food supplement," it added.

The agency said it is issuing the advisory in a bid to protect consumers from possible adverse health effects.

"Since this food supplement has not gone through evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure its quality and safety," it explained.

In the online advertisement of the product, it claims to contain collagen and glutathione in the form of "yummy gummies."

The FDA then warned all concerned establishments not to distribute, advertise, or sell the said violative food supplement.

All law enforcement agencies and local government units are also requested to ensure that the product is not sold or made available in their areas of jurisdiction.

The FDA also called on the Bureau of Customs to restrain the entry of the unregistered imported products. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
