A FILIPINA caregiver in Israel is in critical condition after a missile strike hit her home.
The Philippine Embassy in Israel reported that the victim is receiving "topnotch" medical care in the intensive care unit of Shamir Medical Center, a leading Israeli hospital. She suffered "life-threatening" injuries to her heart and lungs.
“We are doing everything within our means to reach and assist our nationals affected by this crisis. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, especially our kababayan who is now fighting for her life. We ask the Filipino community to join us in praying for her survival and healing,” Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola said in a statement.
Mendiola also said that eight other Filipino nationals sustained injuries during Iran's retaliatory airstrikes. Two of these victims, a 43-year-old woman who underwent emergency surgery and a 44-year-old man with arm and leg injuries, are being treated at Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.
“The Embassy is coordinating with hospital social workers and the Rehovot local government to ensure that, upon discharge, the victims will be transferred to appropriate shelters, granted their due compensation and benefits, and properly assisted in their recovery,” said Mendiola.
On Monday, June 16, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that 18 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived in the Philippines as part of ongoing government repatriation efforts.
These OFWs were stranded in Dubai for 48 hours after the conflict began. They each received P50,000 in financial assistance.
The DMW said there were around 30,000 Filipinos in Israel. The department remains ready for any eventualities, including mass repatriation if necessary. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
