OPM icon Freddie Aguilar passed away at the age of 72.

Aguilar’s passing was confirmed by lawyer George Briones of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), where the latter formerly served as the national executive and vice president.

The Filipino singer-songwriter was the brains and voice behind OPM hits “Anak,” “Bayan ko,” “Bulag, Pipi at Bingi” and “Magdalena.”

In a social media post six days ago, Aguilar’s wife, Jovie, confirmed his hospitalization.

“Ang daming nangyayari this week. Maraming nakakaiyak na moments pero hindi pa tayo pwedeng maging mahina. Kailangan ko palaging maging malakas para mabantayan ko sya sa oras-oras,” she said.

(A lot is happening this week. There have been so many tearful moments, but I can’t afford to be weak just yet. I need to stay strong so I can watch over him every hour.)

Aguilar was reportedly admitted at the Philippine Heart Center. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
