MANILA – The number of houses damaged by the effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong in late July has climbed to 108,358, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC said out of the total number of damaged houses, 97,508 were classified as "partially damaged" and 10,850 as "totally damaged."

Region 1 (Ilocos Region) has the most number of damaged houses at 101,849 — 92,108 "partially damaged" and 9,831 "totally damaged."

The estimated cost of damaged houses was at PHP6,256,375, the NDRRMC report said.

Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy spokesperson Diego Mariano said all possible assistance is being provided to families whose homes were damaged by the inclement weather.

Asked if relocation is part of the assistance, Mariano said such an option is "always part of the plan."

"Relocating those gravely affected, those in the most hazardous areas, is always part of the plan. However, there are limitations. For the meantime, DHSUD (Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development) is providing assistance to those affected, for repairable houses," Mariano said in a message to the Philippine News Agency.

Mariano added the OCD is also providing assistance, such as shelter repair kits.

The NDRRMC report said an estimated PHP1,380,614,810.83 cost of assistance has already been provided to the affected families, which as of Monday was at 2,663,704. (PNA)
