GRAB Philippines and motorcycle taxi platform Move It have teamed up with AXA Philippines, one of the largest and fastest-growing insurance companies in the country, and PhilPacific Insurance Brokers & Managers Inc. (Philinsure) to enhance the social protection of driver-partners.

This underscores the platforms’ dedication to partner welfare in the country.

The partnership offers free life insurance policies to top-performing driver-, delivery-, and rider-partners. This builds upon the existing insurance coverage provided to partners as they engage in ride bookings or deliveries.

This initiative, a key component of the comprehensive incentive programs Ka-Grab Rewards and Ka-Move It Rewards, provides enhanced financial security for participants and their families.

By integrating access to healthcare and insurance policies akin to those found in formal employment, Grab and Move It are setting a new standard for gig economy participants.

Grab Philippines country head Ronald Roda said: “We believe that the hardworking individuals who move our cities and communities forward every day deserve more than just livelihood - they deserve security, protection, and peace of mind. Through this partnership, we are strengthening the gig economy by ensuring that our driver-partners receive fair recognition for their contributions while also having access to protections that help them navigate life’s uncertainties.”

Grab Philippines is the first on-demand service platform in the country to provide free life insurance for its top-performing driver- and delivery-partners. This driver-support initiative has been available since 2016.

Move It followed suit with its Ka-Move It Rewards, which began in 2023, further extending this vital support to its rider-partners. Among the active beneficiaries is Catherine Lorenzo, a Move It rider-partner, community leader, and Emergency Response Unit volunteer.

As a solo parent, Lorenzo highlighted the importance of the program for breadwinners liker her. "Bilang isang solo parent, mahalaga na kami ay hindi lamang kumikita nang sapat, kung hindi mayroon ding kami at ang aming pamilya ng financial protection kapag kami ay mayroong mga kahaharapin na mga hindi kanais-nais na insidente sa kalsada," she said.

The collaboration with AXA Philippines and Philinsure ensures comprehensive coverage and support for tens of thousands of top performing drivers on the Grab Philippines and Move It platforms.

The free insurance policy -- valued up to P1 million across numerous insurance riders -- encompasses crucial aspects of social protection, including life insurance, accidental insurance, disability coverage, and even terminal illness.

Ayman Kandil, CEO of AXA Philippines, emphasized the significance of this initiative in providing financial resilience for gig workers: “At AXA Philippines, we believe that financial protection should be accessible to everyone, most especially the hardworking Grab and Move It driver-partners who keep our cities moving. Through this partnership, we are not just offering insurance -- we are empowering individuals with security, stability, and the confidence to build a better future for themselves and their families. With AXA, Know You Can have the right protection to move forward and focus on what matters.”

“This partnership is a strong testament to Grab and Move It’s unwavering commitment to driver welfare. More importantly, it reinforces that platform work can be both flexible and secure. By collaborating with industry leaders like AXA, we are creating solutions that balance work flexibility with essential protections for our driver-partners in the Philippines. We are not just supporting livelihoods -- we are helping build a more sustainable and secure future for them,” said Roda. (PR)
