Guevarra says death of NBI counter-terrorism head was accidental

JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Friday, December 11, 2020, said the death of former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) counter-terrorism head Raoul Manguerra was an accident.

“According to the chief of the NBI, it was an accident. No foul play as far as the NBI is concerned,” Guevarra told reporters.

Manguerra was found with a gunshot wound in the abdomen inside his office within the NBI compound in Manila early Tuesday morning, December 8, 2020.

Guevarra said Manguerra’s passing is a big loss to the agency, especially now that implementation of the anti-terrorism law has gone full blast.

He earlier said Manguerra caused the arrest of several notorious terrorist group members including the Abu Sayyaf. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
