MANILA – The southwest monsoon (habagat) will continue to bring rains over most parts of the country, with some areas likely to experience heavy rains, the weather bureau said Wednesday.

The provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique will experience monsoon rains. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains in these areas could result in floods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 4 a.m. bulletin.

Scattered rains and thunderstorms are forecast in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Caraga, Davao Region, Pangasinan, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa. Flash floods or landslides are also possible due to moderate to heavy rains.

The rest of the country will continue to experience isolated rain showers caused by "habagat" and localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters still prevail across the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.

Meanwhile, the tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) was located 610 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

"It is moving away from PAR, heading towards Southern China," forecaster Benison Estareja said.

He added that the cyclone slightly enhanced the southwest monsoon. (PNA)
