House approves proposed measure to make Aics permanent on final reading

THE House of Representatives approved on third and final reading a proposed measure seeking to make the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (Aics) program permanent.

House Bill (HB) 11395, or the “Act Institutionalizing the Aics Program,” was unanimously approved by 176 members of the chamber during a plenary session Wednesday, June 4.

The Aics program is one of the DSWD’s social welfare services that provides medical, burial, transportation, education, food and other financial assistance to those who are in need, especially poor families.

The chamber also approved on third and final reading the following proposed measures:

*HB 11373, or the proposed “ERC Reform Act”

*HB 11044, which seeks to rationalize and strengthen the regulation of cockfighting by local government units (LGUs) by amending provisions of the 51-year-old “Cockfighting Law of 1974”

*HB 11253, or the proposed “Cockpit Regulation Law”

*HB 11254, which seeks to prohibit e-sabong or any online, remote, or off-site wagering or betting on live cockfighting matches, events, and activities streamed or broadcast live from cockpit arenas or other venues

*HB 11359, or the proposed “Philippine Civil Registry Act”

*HB 11372, which seeks to strengthen the mechanism for land use development and infrastructure planning (LUDIP) and budgeting for state universities and colleges (SUCs)

*HB 11375, or the proposed “Low Carbon Economy Investment Act”

*HB 11393, which aims to ensure that quality maritime education in the country remains relevant to the evolving needs of the people and society

*HB 11394, which aims to encourage the propagation and use of bamboo for a sustainable built environment

*HB 11400, which seeks to expand the privileges and benefits of senior citizens

*HB 11402, which aims to develop a comprehensive policy to accelerate the sound development of the Philippine motor vehicle manufacturing industry

*HB 11429, which seeks to accelerate the growth of the malunggay industry, promote malunggay as a source of livelihood, and maximize its use for health and nutrition through the creation of the Malunggay Industry Development Committee

*HB 11430, or the proposed “Declaration of State of Imminent Disaster Act” (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
