A 64-YEAR-OLD official of the House of Representatives was gunned down on Sunday afternoon, June 15, 2025, while attending the seventh birthday party of his daughter in Quezon City.

In a report, the Quezon City Police District said the gunman shot the victim on his head at a close range inside the venue while the party was ongoing around 2:55 p.m.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by an attending physician.

The suspects, on board a motorcycle, immediately fled from the scene.

Police said based on backtracking investigation, the suspects used a fake identification card to pass through the security entrance of the subdivision around lunch time.

They also fired at the guard house as they escaped.

In a statement, House Speaker Martin Romualdez identified the victim as Director Mauricio “Morrie” Pulhin, chief of technical staff of the Committee on Ways and Means.

Romualdez urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial and swift investigation on the incident.

“Director Pulhin was a long-serving and dedicated public servant. His professionalism, integrity, and quiet commitment to his work earned him the respect of his peers and superiors alike. We condemn this brutal act of violence in the strongest possible terms,” Romualdez said.

“To Director Pulhin's family: we offer our deepest condolences. We stand with you in this time of unimaginable pain. And we will do everything in our power to ensure that those responsible-whether gunmen or masterminds-are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he added.

Romualdez urged the House secretariat and its broader congressional family to channel their grief and anger into vigilance, unity, and an unwavering demand for justice. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
