THE Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island erupted anew on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2025.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the explosive eruption began at 5:51 a.m. and ended at 6:47 a.m.
It said the Kanlaon explosion produced a voluminous bent plume approximately 4,000 meters tall that is drifting southwest.
The Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 or intensified unrest caused by the magmatic intrusion to shallow levels of the edifice.
In a radio interview, Office of Civil Defense-Western Visayas Director Raul Fernandez said Barangay Sag-Ang in La Castellana, Barangays Yubo and Ara-al in La Carlota, as well as Bago City were affected by the ashfall brought about by the eruption.
He said evacuation of the residents in the affected areas is ongoing.
Fernandez said 8,000 residents were displaced since the December 9, 2024 eruption of the Kanlaon Volcano.
The Phivolcs warned against the effect of the ashfall especially on human health. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
