3 cops found to have contracted Delta variant

THREE policemen had contracted the Delta variant of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Lieutenant General Joselito Vera Cruz, PNP deputy chief for administration and Administrative Support for Covid-19 Task Force (ASCOTF) commander, said the three policemen are all assigned at the PNP Aviation Security Group.

They tested positive for the virus in July and had been tagged as recovered before the genome sequencing result was released.

One policeman tested positive again when they underwent another RT-PCR testing as ordered by the Department of Health. The two others are on home quarantine.

“Unfortunately, one tested positive again and now admitted in an LGU (local government unit) isolation facility while another one tested negative but still on home quarantine for reswabbing on August 12,” Vera Cruz said.

“The other one is still awaiting result of his RT-PCR and also on home quarantine,” he added.

As of August 12, 2021, a total of 32,077 cops have contracted Covid-19.

Of this number, 1,868 are active cases, 89 had died and 30,147 have recovered.

Vera Cruz said 90 percent of PNP’s mortalities were unvaccinated against Covid-19 while five had received one dose.

As of August 11, the DOH has reported 627 Delta variant cases in the country, with 13 deaths. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo / SunStar Philippines)
