Abu Sayyaf leader in Basilan is dead, military says

THE Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) leader in Basilan, Furuji Indama, has died, Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) commander Corleto Vinluan Jr. said on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Vinluan said that based on their monitoring, Indama’s kin were already aware of his passing.

He said the troops were still trying to determine the location of Indama’s remains.

The military earlier said Indama was among the five ASG members who were killed in an encounter with government troops in Sitio Limuno, Barangay Roxas, R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay province in the early morning of September 9, 2020.

His men were believed to have brought his body with them when they withdrew.

Indama was a high-value target facing charges of murder and kidnapping over his alleged involvement in the Lamitan bombing in 2018, which killed at least 10 individuals, as well as in the abduction incidents in the Golden Harvest Plantation and Dos Palmas in 2001. (SunStar Philippines)
