THE Philippines broke its own record again, as coronavirus infections continued to climb to a new high.

In its case bulletin on Friday, April 2, 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 15,310 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), but said 3,709 of these should have been added to the March 31 tally.

"On March 31, 2021, the DOH reported only 6,128 new cases due to CovidKaya system issue. After system checks, validation and deduplication were made, 3,709 additional cases were confirmed," the DOH said in its case bulletin.

“All system issues have been resolved and measures were put in place to prevent the same issue from happening again,” it added.

This left 11,601 new cases for April 2, still higher than the previous high of 10,016 on March 29. The March 31 tally, meanwhile, should have been reported at 9,837.

The new cases on Friday brought the cumulative caseload to 771,497, including 153,809 active cases.

There were 17 additional mortalities, bringing the death toll to 13,320. The case fatality rate went down to 1.73 percent.

There were 434 new recoveries, which increased the total to 604,368.

Of the active cases, 96.3 percent were mild, 2.4 percent were asymptomatic, 0.5 percent were in severe condition, 0.5 percent were critical and 0.32 percent were moderate cases. (HDT/LMY/SunStar Philippines)
