DAILY cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in six regions have continued to increase, although at a slower rate as indicated by a decline in the two-week growth rate, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday, September 10, 2021.

The six regions are National Capital Region (Metro Manila), Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

"However, it is important to note that while the TWGR (two-week growth rate) decreased, it still showed positive growth, meaning numbers are still increasing, albeit at a slower rate," DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

Nationally, the entire country remains at high risk, with a 30 percent TWGR and high-risk average daily attack rate of 17.14 cases per 100,000 population.

On Friday, the DOH reported almost 18,000 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, lower than the record high 22,820 infections a day earlier.

In its case bulletin, the DOH listed 17,964 new cases, 168 additional deaths and 9,067 new recoveries.

The new cases brought the cumulative Covid-19 case count to 2,179,770, less 86 duplicates that were removed from the tally.

The daily positivity rate remained high at 28.9 percent on September 8, although this was lower than the 29.4 percent on September 7, while the testing output increased to a new high of 76,562.

Four laboratories were unable to submit their testing output to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on September 8.

The additional mortalities, which included 79 cases previously tagged as recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll to 34,899. The case fatality rate declined further to 1.5 percent.

As the new cases were almost double the recoveries, the number of active cases climbed to 175,470, but these were still lower than the peak of 203,710 on April 17, 2021.

Of the active cases, 0.6 percent were critical, 1.3 percent were severe, 2.48 percent were moderate, 87.8 percent were mild and 7.8 percent were asymptomatic.

Total recoveries, meanwhile, increased to 1,969,401. (MVI, HDT / SunStar Philippines)
