AS THE registration process shifts to a fully online system, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday, July 7, 2023, expressed confidence that overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be able to keep in step.

In a radio interview, DMW Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said they have no doubts that OFWs will be able to handle the shift from the traditional Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) to the digital "OFW Pass."

"We have the full confidence with our OFWs that they are well equipped to handle electronic transactions," said Cacdac.

He said this is because many OFWs engage in online transactions, such as shopping, banking, as well as social media.

"Many are already engaged in online transactions so we have the confidence that the OFWs have (online) literacy," said Cacdac.

Despite this, the official assured that the DMW have the necessary personnel designated to provide assistance to OFWs in securing their OFW Pass.

"We will have a technical support unit ready to help our OFWs using the system," he said.

"And during the transition period, our OFWs can still opt to come to our office and we will personally give them assistance," added Cacdac.

On Thursday, the DMW bared that they are set to launch the digital "OFW Pass" in place of the traditional OEC.

One of the foremost features of the OFW Pass is that it removes the requirement for onsite processing of OECs as it can be done using a smartphone app. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
