Duterte appoints 4 new ambassadors

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has named four new ambassadors to countries in Asia, Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

The President signed on December 19 the appointment papers of Edward Hereira for Kazakhstan, Raul Hernandez for Turkey, Leah Ruiz for Poland and Alex Chua for Kenya.

Hereira will serve for six months as special envoy to Kazakhstan.

Hernandez, the country's former ambassador to South Korea and an erstwhile Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, will be the ambassador to Turkey and will have concurrent jurisdiction over Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Ruiz, a former ambassador to Lebanon, was appointed as ambassador to Poland, with concurrent jurisdiction over Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Chua, aside from being ambassador to Kenya, will have concurrent jurisdiction over Burundi, Congo, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tnzania, Uganda, and Sudan.

He will also concurrently serve as Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Environmental Programme and UN Human Settlements Programme.
