FORMER President Joseph Ejercito Estrada was taken off the ventilator Friday, April 9, 2021, although he continued to require high-flow oxygen, his son Jinggoy Estrada said.

Jinggoy, a former senator, said earlier Friday that his father was responding well to treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“We are extremely happy to announce that my father has now been removed from ventilator support although he continues to require high flow oxygenation,” he announced at past 1 p.m. Friday.

“While we thank his doctors for their excellent care, we give all the credit to Our Lord Almighty and enjoin everyone to continue praying for my father,” he added.

He said the former president is not completely out of danger.

The former president was brought to the hospital on March 28, after developing symptoms.

Six days later, on April 5, he was put on a mechanical ventilator to help him breathe. The ventilator was removed on the fourth day.

Jinggoy said they hope his father “continues to fight with his usual tenacity as only Erap can.”

“Please continue to pray that he recovers completely from this devastating disease and that no new complications set back his progress,” he said. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
