AFTER over a year of hiding, Dong Yi Shen, also known as Kenneth Dong, the alleged middleman in the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slip past the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in May 2017, was arrested Monday, February 4.

The National Bureau Investigation (NBI) said Dong was nabbed by its anti-organized and transnational crime division around 2 p.m. Monday in Karangalan Village in Muntinlupa.

Dong will remain at the NBI detention facility and will be presented to the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) when it resumes operation on Wednesday, February 6.

In a television interview, Dong denied involvement in illegal drug trade.

“Wala akong kinalaman diyan sa drugs, alam naman ng lahat ng tao na nadamay lang ako jan,” he said.

(I have nothing to do with illegal drugs. The people know that I was just dragged into the issue.)

Dong, Customs broker Mark Taguba, Li Guang Feng also known as Manny Li, Eirene Mae Tatad, Teejan Marcellana, Chen I-Min, Jhu Ming Jyun and Chen Rong Juan were ordered arrested by Manila RTC 46 Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa on January 2018.

They are facing charges over the alleged importation of illegal drugs in the country in violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 or Republic Act 9165.

Taguba surrendered to the NBI following the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Dong, Taguba and the other accused were implicated in the P6.4-billion worth of illegal drugs that slipped past the BOC and discovered in a warehouse in Valenzuela City. (SunStar Philippines)
