Lanao del Sur municipal councilor shot dead

A LANAO del Sur municipal councilor was killed while five others were wounded in a shooting incident in Barangay Poblacion, Balabagan on Saturday, July 7.

In a report, the police said Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur councilor Nassif Palawan Basil died on the spot while five others including former barangay chairman Alvin Abdullah Sampulna were wounded when five unidentified armed men on board of a Blue FX entered the compound of former Mayor Hadji Amer Sampiano in the said area around 1:55 p.m.

The victims were reportedly visiting Sampiano when the incident happened.

Police said suspects are still being identified through the descriptions of the witnesses and considering personal grudges or politics as possible motive of the incident.

Pursuit operations are being conducted against the suspects. (SunStar Philippines)
