ANTIQUE Representative Loren Legarda is looking to make a comeback in the Senate.

She became the first to file her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tents in Pasay City Friday, October 1, 2021.

Legarda was accompanied by her lawyer, George Garcia. She is among the senatorial candidates of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).

In her speech after filing her COC, the 61-year old lawmaker said she believes the Senate needs someone with experience, especially amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

"I believe that, with my vast experience as a former majority leader and as a senator for three terms, I've been able to craft the laws that are helping our people right now," said Legarda.

"There is much more I can give to the people especially during this pandemic," she added.

Legarda had served as senator for three terms, from 1998 to 2004, 2007 to 2013, and 2013 to 2019.

In the May 2019 polls, Legarda ran and won for congresswoman for the lone district of Antique.

The next national and local elections have been set for May 9, 2022. (HDT / SunStar Philippines)
