PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. flew to the United States (US) on Sunday, April 30, 2023, for a bilateral meeting with President Joe Biden.

Marcos was accompanied by first lady Liza Louise and several of his cabinet secretaries, economic team and business leaders.

In his speech, Marcos said his visit to the US will reinforce the country’s bond with the US, a long-standing ally of the Philippines.

“My visit to the United States, and more especially my meeting with President Joe Biden, is essential to advancing our national interests and strengthening that very important alliance,” said Marcos.

Marcos and Biden are expected to bolster partnerships in the semiconductor industry, critical minerals, renewable and clean energy, including nuclear, and infrastructure projects “that will improve our digital and telecommunication systems and facilitate sustainability efforts to address climate change.”

It is also an opportunity for the chief executive to further promote trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines.

Earlier, Marcos said he will also discuss the existing defense cooperation between the Philippines and the US due to developing situations in the region. (SunStar Philippines)
