PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Philippines and Singapore can expect strengthened collaboration on multiple fronts to address common global challenges following his “promising” discussion with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong over dinner on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

Marcos said he had a chance to discuss important matters with the two top officials before watching the F1 Grand Prix upon the invitation of Lee.

“The discussions with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy PM Lawrence Wong have been promising. Our countries can expect enhanced collaboration on multiple fronts to address common global challenges,” Marcos said.

“Later in the evening, we watched Ferrari clinch the podium at the F1 Grand Prix,” he added.

Marcos was on an official visit to Singapore for his attendance at the just concluded 10th Asian Conference where he discussed priority policies and programs before economic managers and business leaders.

During his talk at the event, Marcos highlighted the Philippine government’s efforts to improve the lives of the Filipino people amid the challenges from significant global events.

Marcos was the first sitting President to address the Milken Institute’s Asia Summit.

In a meeting on Saturday, Singapore-based multinational technology company, Dyson, confirmed to Marcos a P11-billion investment pledge in the Philippines in the next two years.

Malaysian retail specialist Valiram Group told Marcos that they are also looking at expanding its operations in the Philippines by developing airport outlets for duty-free retail tourism.

Earlier on Sunday, September 17, Marcos had a surprise visit in a mall frequented by Filipinos in Singapore. (SunStar Philippines)
