A POLICE officer was killed by counter-intelligence operatives during a drug bust in Morong, Rizal, on Tuesday, July 3, an official said Wednesday, July 4.
Philippine National Police (PNP) Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) Director Romeo Caramat said joint elements of CITF, PNP intelligence group and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted a drug bust against Police Officer 2 Gemmo Meneses around 4:20 p.m. of July 3 in Barangay Maybancal, Morong.
The operation, he added, stemmed from a “validated intelligence information” that Meneses, who is assigned at the Drug Enforcement Unit of Morong Rizal Provincial Police Office, is involved in recycling of illegal drugs confiscated from police operations.
Caramat said Meneses is reportedly distributing or selling the seized illegal drugs back on the streets.
He said during the operation, Meneses immediately drew his pistol upon sensing that he was dealing with poseur buyers, prompting the police to fire at him.
“Immediately, he was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment; however, he was declared dead on arrival by attending physician,” Caramat said. (SunStar Philippines)
