NBI eyes cancellation of Teves’ passport

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is eyeing the cancellation of the passport of suspended Negros Oriental Third District representative Arnolfo Teves Jr., Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

In a television interview, Remulla said the NBI is just awaiting the filing of murder charges against Teves in relation to the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

“When the other charges are filed, we will file for the cancellation of his passport,” he said.

Remulla expressed belief that Teves holds a passport with a different nationality.

Earlier, Remulla said Teves has applied for political asylum in Timor-Leste.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said the Ministry of Interior of Timor-Leste denied Teves’ bid.

Teves was tagged as the mastermind in the murder of Degamo on March 24, which also resulted in the killing of nine innocent individuals.

The justice department is currently working to designate Teves as a terrorist as part of efforts to “make his world small” and may subsequently lead to his return to the country to face charges against him. (SunStar Philippines)
