AFTER three consecutive days of over 20,000 new infections a day, the daily tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases decreased to around 18,000 on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, due to low testing output.
In its case bulletin Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 18,056 new cases, 222 additional mortalities and 20,542 new recoveries.
The daily positivity rate on Sunday, September 12 soared to 29.7 percent, which means almost three out of 10 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests yielded positive results.
Testing output was low at 50,425 as 12 laboratories did not submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on Sunday.
The new cases brought the cumulative Covid-19 case count in the Philippines to 2,266,066, less 61 duplicates that were removed.
The additional mortalities, which included 92 cases reclassified from recoveries, raised the Covid-19 death toll to 35,529. The case fatality rate remained at 1.57 percent.
Including the new recoveries reported Tuesday, a total of 2,052,867 individuals have now recovered from infection. They comprise 90.6 percent of the cumulative case count.
As recoveries were higher than the new cases, the number of active cases declined to 177,670, of which 0.6 percent were critical, 1.4 percent were severe, 2.66 percent were moderate, 85.8 percent were mild and 9.5 percent were asymptomatic. (Marites Villamor-Ilano / SunStar Philippines)
