No blackmailing, hostage taking in budget discussions, Cayetano assures

HOUSE Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano assured on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, that the deliberations on the proposed P4.506-trillion budget for 2021 will be free of “blackmailing, hostage taking, and corruption.”

During the House caucus he convened Wednesday, Cayetano said he will hear the concerns of every lawmaker regarding budget proposals for 2021.

“Kaisa kami ni [House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez], na lahat ng representatives na mayroong concern, kahit isang constituent lang, they can talk to us,” he said.

“But there will be no blackmailing. There will be no hostage taking. There will be no moves that will force us na pumayag ng pork, parking or corruption,” he assured.

Cayetano’s remarks came after Negros Oriental Representative Arnulfo Teves Jr. questioned the allocation of funds among congressional districts.

Teves questioned the P11 billion and P8 billion allocation of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the infrastructure projects in Camarines Sur and Taguig City, which Deputy Speaker Luis Raymund Villafuerte and Cayetano represent. (SunStar Philippines)
