THE overseas Filipino worker (OFW) mother of the 17-year-old teenager who was shot by policemen in Navotas City last week has finally returned home and is looking forward to reuniting with her son.

In a social media post, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that OFW Rodaliza Baltazar arrived in the country on Friday morning, August 11, 2023, after previously working in Qatar.

"The DMW and Owwa (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) assisted in the repatriation of Baltazar, whose 17-year-old son was mistakenly shot by Navotas policemen last week," said the DMW.

"Baltazar arrived on board Philippine Airlines Flight PR685 from Doha at 10:35 a.m. today," it added

Baltazar was welcomed by DMW Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia and Hans Cacdac as well as Owwa Administrator Arnell Ignacio.

"The officials assured Baltazar and her family of the department's support in their time of grief and loss," it said.

In turn, the returning OFW requested that the family be given privacy in dealing with the crisis.

"She conveyed the family's request for privacy at this time to mourn the loss of her son," related DMW.

The government agency reiterated its readiness to provide Baltazar different forms of assistance for her and her family.

"She will receive financial assistance in the form of P100,000 cash as well as covering the funeral and burial expenses," said the DMW.

On August 2, Baltazar’s son, Jemboy, was killed by policemen in Navotas City after they shot at him and he fell into the water.

Later on, authorities admitted that what happened was a case of mistaken identity as the police were pursuing a suspect in a shooting incident. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
