Oldest Filipino bishop dies at 96

THE oldest Catholic bishop in the Philippines passed away on Saturday, July 17, at the age of 96.

In a report by CBCP News, retired Imus Bishop Manuel Sobreviñas died at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City at 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

"Please include him in all your Mass intentions," said the Imus Diocese as quoted by the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Born in Dinalupihan, Bataan in April 1924, Sobreviñas was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Manila in March 1955.

In April 1979, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Manila, which he held for 14 years.

In February 1993, Sobreviñas was appointed as the third bishop of Imus.

Sobreviñas retired in October 2001 at the age of 77. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
