PBBM highlights insurgency-free Davao Del Sur during visit

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. highlighted the declaration of Davao Del Sur as an insurgency-free province in his message during the province’s 56th founding anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

The President emphasized in his message the importance of peace in the continuous development of the province and its people during the anniversary program held at Davao del Sur Coliseum in Digos City.

President Marcos commended the efforts and initiatives of Davao del Sur for sustaining a peaceful and progressive province.

“Let me acknowledge that this is the first province in the Davao Region to be declared insurgency free and for doing your best to continue to maintain the status right up to this day...through your diligence and compassionate implementation of the Tupad Pangako Program you are able to accomplish this while also helping former rebels re-integrate into society to take part in building our nation,” the President said.

It can be recalled that due to the aggressive implementation of the Whole-of-Nation Approach spearheaded by the province paired with the effective execution of the AFP's Community Support Program, the province of Davao del Sur was declared insurgency-free since the 4th Quarter of 2021.

The declaration was made through a Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Resolution adopted on May 25, 2022.

The Tupad Pangako Program is a convergence program crafted and led by the provincial government to reintegrate former rebels and rehabilitate former conflict-affected and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas.

Marcos arrived at Davao Del Sur Sports Complex aboard a Presidential helicopter.

Major General Jose Eriel Niembra, 10th Infantry Division commander; Brigadier General Patricio Ruben Amata, 1002nd Infantry Brigade commander, Ppolice Brigadier General Alexander Tagum, Metro Davao Police District director; and, Police Colonel Guiseppe Geralde, Davao del Sur police director, welcomed the President upon his arrival.
