PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. called on Friday, July 14, 2023, for the surrender of five policemen involved in the robbery-extortion of a computer shop owner in Sampaloc, Manila.

Acorda identified the policemen as Staff Sergeants Ryann Tagle Paculan and Jan Erwin Santiago Isaac, Corporal Jonmark Gonzales Dabucol and Patrolmen Jeremiah Sesma Pascual, and John Lester Reyes Pagar who were members of the Manila Police District Intelligence Operations Unit.

“I am saddened about it but we are doing our best just to show to our fellow Filipinos that we are not condoning any kind of this act and we will be running after them,” he said.

“In fact, I tasked hindi lang ‘yung (not just the) MPD, the IG and the criminal investigation pagtulong-tulongan nila hanapin ito (to help find) and so I urge those PNP personnel sumuko na lang (to surrender),” he added.

He said charges are being prepared against these erring policemen.

As seen in a closed circuit television (CCTV) footage, the five policemen barged into the computer shop and accused the owner of operating an illegal gambling den.

They took P44,000 cash from the shop owner and demanded P4,000 worth of “protection pay” for each week.

All 50 members of the Manila Police District Intelligence Operations Unit have been relieved due to the incident. (SunStar Philippines)
