PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Guillermo Eleazar has reminded police personnel to maintain maximum tolerance in dealing with violators of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) protocols.

Eleazar said ECQ violators would be arrested only as a last resort.

“If the violation is minimum public health standard, we can always apply the existing ordinances in the locality,” he said in a press conference Friday, August 6, 2021.

“Andun pa rin ang ating maximum tolerance, our personnel are all reminded inspite na talagang mahirap ang ginagawa nila nando’n lagi ang pasensya, maximum tolerance and respect and courtesy we’ll be given to the public is always there,” he added.

He issued the reminder as he conducted inspections at the border control points around Metro Manila, which is now under ECQ until August 20 in a bid to curb transmission of the Delta variant of Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Cases with the Delta variant have been detected in all 16 cities and one municipality in Metro Manila.

Eleazar said 89 quarantine checkpoints manned by 1,203 police personnel were established in various areas in the NCR.

He said police will now be stricter especially in not letting unauthorized persons outside residence pass through checkpoints.

Eleazar said even those returning residents of Metro Manila will not be able to get into NCR.

“Mag-iintay na sila ng after ng ECQ,” he said.

Eleazar said more police personnel were deployed for the conduct of mobile patrolling for the implementation of health protocols and curfew, which is from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily.

A total of 7,337 police officers have been deployed in 2,745 vaccination centers while 4,877 are manning 2,535 quarantine areas.

In other areas outside the NCR Plus, the PNP deployed 9,180 police personnel to man 1,103 quarantine control points.

NCR Plus refers to the NCR or Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.

Laguna is also under ECQ while Cavite and Rizal are under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). (SunStar Philippines)
