Police ready for Chinese president's visit

OVER 5,000 police officers will be fielded across Metro Manila for the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping in the country, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar said.

Eleazar said a total of 5,500 police officers from the NCRPO will be deployed to ensure the security and peace and order during Xi’s visit on November 20 to 21.

He said they will be augmented by forces from the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) as well as from the police districts in Metro Manila.

“Nakahanda na po ang kapulisan at tuloy-tuloy po ‘yung aming coordination sa mga ahensyang tutulong po sa atin dito.

Ang embassy po ng Chinese government ay in close coordination with us at halos araw-araw,” said Eleazar.

(The police are ready and we have been coordinating with other government agencies. We are also in close coordination with the Chinese Embassy.)

“Ang ating organization ay naging bahagi ng preparations sa mga summits, international events before like Apec, Asean. Parang template na po yan na alam natin ang gagawin kung merong pong mga bibisita sa atin na mga heads of state pati ‘yung mga VIPs and other dignitaries. So wala pong maging problema at ‘yung paghahanda natin ay base doon sa template at expected na preparations depende dignitary or VIP na dadating,” he added.

(Our organization has been part of preparation for international events such as the Apec and Asean summits. We know what to do when heads of state and other dignitaries visit us. We don't see any problem. We already have a template for the preparations.)

The NCRPO chief said the southern part of the metro is most likely to be affected by Xi’s visit.

He said they will also monitor the possible conduct of rallies by activist groups.

Eleazar said the Civil Disturbance Management contingents are on standby to address such matter. (SunStar Philippines)
