A POLICEMAN was killed while two others were critically wounded following a gunfight with members of a communist terrorist group in Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
The firefight ensued as the authorities were serving arrest warrants against Darry Dayawan, Charity Amacan and several alleged members of the terrorist group in Sitio Icogan in Barangay Minapasok.
The said suspects were facing charges of murder.
Killed during the encounter was police Corporal Jaime Nuñez, while wounded were Captain Jesus Alba, deputy chief of Calatrava Municipal Police Station, and Corporal Dennis Nasis.
The Police Region Office-Western Visayas strongly condemned the incident, which it said shows the “true color and deceitful nature” of the communist terrorist group.
“PRO 6 (Western Visayas) is saddened by the demise of Police Corporal Nuñez and the injury incurred by two others, who performed their duty with zeal and dedication to deliver justice to the victims of crime and their families. We are one with the family in condemning the terroristic act committed by the CTGs who wanted to spread fear and chaos to the peaceful community of Barangay Minapasok. I urge everyone to help us in our battle against terrorism, for our family and for our country,” PRO-Western Visayas Director Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor said. (SunStar Philippines)
