PRIVATE establishments in areas under Alert Level 1 to 3 were given the discretion to require their customers and employees to wear face shields, especially in enclosed spaces, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said on Friday, November 19, 2021.

"With regard to the voluntary use of face shields, it is hereby clarified that the same is without prejudice to employers still requiring their use for their employees and/or customers," Nograles said in a televised press conference, citing the latest Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Resolution No. 149.

Nograles said this was agreed upon by the IATF for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases during a meeting on Thursday, November 18.

On Monday, November 15, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the IATF recommendation, making the wearing of face shields voluntary.

This came amid public clamor for the government to lift the face shield requirement in all public places.
