VICE President Sara Duterte has resigned from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party.

In a statement, Duterte said her resignation from the party to which she serves as chairperson, is “irrevocable.”

“I am grateful to all the party members for the support that also once demonstrated that unity is possible to advance our shared dreams for our fellow Filipinos and our beloved country,” she said.

The Vice President, who is also the concurrent secretary of the Department of Education, did not cite the reason for her resignation.

She said the most important thing for her is to be able to serve the country and the Filipinos with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on the lead.

“Trust that my word, my commitment will be immutable,” said Duterte.

“I am here today because of the trust of the Filipino people in me to lead and serve them and the country, and this cannot be poisoned by political toxicity or undermined by execrable political powerplay,” she added.

She called for “all leaders to focus on the work that must be done and leave a legacy of a strong and stable homeland.”

On Wednesday, May 17, Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, one of the 71 members of the chamber belonging to Lakas-CMD, was demoted from being the House of Representatives’ senior deputy speaker to a mere deputy speaker.

She was replaced by PDP-Laban national treasurer Pampanga Third District Representative Aurelio Dong Gonzales Jr.

Gonzales expressed gratitude to the House and Speaker Martin Romualdez, the Lakas-CMD party president, for electing and choosing him for the post. (SunStar Philippines)
