SM NORTH Edsa has dismissed one of its security guards for throwing a puppy from a higher ground outside the mall.

In a statement, the mall management said the security guard, who was identified as Jojo Malicdem, is no longer allowed to render service to any of its malls nationwide.

“With extreme sadness, we sympathize with the group of youngsters regarding the incident that happened outside out mall today,” it said.

“As a pet friendly establishment, we strongly condemn any acts that endanger or harm the lives of animals,” it added.

In a separate statement, RJC Corporate Security Services Inc., the security agency to which Malicdem is affiliated, said they will conduct a probe into the incident together with authorities and the parties involved.

As reported, Malicdem threw off the puppy from a footbridge on Tuesday, July 11, to drive away children playing with the dog.

The puppy was rushed to an animal clinic but eventually died.

The Philippine Animal Welfare has condemned the incident, saying it will file a case against Malicdem for animal cruelty. (SunStar Philippines)
