Smartmatic: PH elections have not been compromised in any way

AMID the security breach it faced, Smartmatic International on Saturday, April 2, 202 assured Filipinos that the forthcoming May 9 elections have not been compromised and that its integrity is well secured.

In a phone interview, Smartmatic Spokesman Christian Robert Lim said the reported security breach did not affect the Commission on Elections (Comelec) nor the information related to the poll exercise.

"We can assure that no information related to the Philippine elections 2022 was leaked," said Lim.

"The elections have not been compromised in any way. The integrity of the Philippine elections is safe and secure," he added.

The former Comelec commissioner noted how the data breached only involved Smartmatic and its own internal information.

"Data downloaded were internal policies and manuals, information about the company, such as how to account for out-of-office work, etc.," said Lim.

The multinational firm also assured that the employees liable for the security breach had already been meted with disciplinary action.

"The disciplinary action imposed is commensurate to acts constituting serious misconduct, willful breach of the trust reposed by the employer, and fraud," said Lim.

Senator Imee Marcos earlier said an employee of Smartmatic supposedly allowed a group of hackers to copy election data from a company-issued laptop.

On late Thursday, Smartmatic officials met with members of the Comelec en banc to discuss the security breach, among others. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
