Suspect in Rizal beheading incident killed in Zambales

ONE of the two suspects in the beheading of a man in Rizal province in Calabarzon was killed by police before dawn Wednesday, October 7, 2020, in Zambales province in Central Luzon.

Edison Villaran, who was the subject of an arrest warrant for murder, allegedly fired at policemen approaching his hideout along Govic Road, Barangay Naugsol in Subic, Zambales at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-kidnapping Group (AKG) spokesperson Major Ronaldo Lumactod said the police fired back and killed Villaran.

Villaran and his brother Jovito were the suspects in the beheading of Jesus Almoradi on September 16, 2019 in Cardona, Rizal.

Jovito was arrested on October 3, 2020. He said his brother and Almoradi had an altercation over a woman. He jumped into the fight when he saw his brother was at a disadvantage.

"Ayon dito sa kay Jovito Villaran, nagkaroon ng away itong victim at ‘yung kapatid niya. Nakita niya na agrabyado na kapatid niya, tumulong siya," Lumactod said.

"Para pugutan mo ng ulo ang isang tao, grabe ang galit no’n, ibig sabihin. According sa nahuli natin na si Villaran, ang puno't dulo daw niyan ay selos sa babae," he added.

Lumactod said the Villain brothers were also members of the kidnap-for-ransom group led by former policeman Rafael Maray, who was killed in a shootout with policemen in Binangonan, Rizal in July.

He said the group was also involved in robbery and other crimes in the province of Rizal. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
