MANILA – A low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon (habagat) will bring rain showers over a huge part of the country Monday, the weather bureau said.
The LPA, located 275 kilometers northwest of Baler, Aurora or 215 km. west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union as of 3 a.m., will cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region and the provinces of Abra and Benguet.
As of 2 a.m., the LPA has a "medium chance" of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Occasional rains caused by the southwest monsoon will be experienced in Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique.
The southwest monsoon will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, and the rest of the Visayas, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon.
Moderate to heavy rains in the areas above could result in floods or landslides.
Isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon will prevail across Mindanao and the rest of Luzon due to localized thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are forecast in the western sections of southern Luzon and the Visayas.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
