MANILA – A low-pressure area (LPA) will bring rains across the Visayas, Mindanao, and some parts of Luzon, the weather bureau said Saturday.
As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 135 km. east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Mindanao, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Quezon, and Batangas.
Moderate to at times heavy rains in these areas could result in flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
The rest of the country will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the easterlies.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters will prevail across the archipelago.
Meanwhile, 19 areas will experience a heat index of 42°C to 44°C.
The heat index could peak at 44°C in Baler, Aurora; Infanta, Quezon; Iba, Zambales; and Sangley Point, Cavite.
A 43°C heat index is expected in the following:
NAIA, Pasay City;
Dagupan City, Pangasinan;
ISU Echague, Isabela; and
Cubi Point, Subic
A 42°C heat index, meanwhile, is forecast in:
Science Garden, Quezon City;
Laoag, Ilocos Norte;
Bacnotan, La Union;
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan;
CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija;
TAU Camiling, Tarlac;
Hacienda Luisiya, Tarlac City, Tarlac;
Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas;
Alabat, Quezon;
San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and
Cuyo, Palawan
Heat index refers to the temperature felt by the human body when relative humidity is factored in with actual air temperature.
Prolonged exposure to “danger” levels of 42°C to 51°C heat index could increase risks of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, PAGASA warned. (PNA)
