PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the proposed P6.7 trillion national budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026.

In a press conference Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said Marcos approved the proposed P6.7-trillion National Expenditure Program for FY 2026 with the intention to improve the quality of education in the Philippines and ease the lives of Filipinos in a bid to build a progressive Philippines.

“President Marcos Jr. emphasized that the 2026 budget will not only aim for economic growth but also seek to uplift the lives of every Filipino and future generations,” she said.

Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman earlier said that the proposed budget is 7.4 percent higher than the P6.326 trillion budget set in FY 2025 and is equivalent to 22 percent of the gross domestic product.

She said it reflects the government’s commitment to supporting inclusive economic growth while upholding fiscal sustainability.

The proposed budget is expected to be submitted to the Congress before the fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) of Marcos on July 28, 2025. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
