PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed Cabinet secretaries to submit courtesy resignations, citing a need for a “reset” to “realign government with the people’s expectations.”

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Marcos's call aims to evaluate each department's performance and determine who will continue serving, aligning with the administration’s priorities.

The PCO said this step marks a transition from early governance to a performance-driven approach.

“This is not business as usual. The people have spoken, and they expect results, not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” Marcos said.

“This is not about personalities -- it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency. Those who have delivered and continue to deliver will be recognized. But we cannot afford to be complacent. The time for comfort zones is over,” he added.

Marcos cited the country’s evolving needs, requiring “renewed alignment, faster execution, and a results-first mindset.”

The President ensured government services will continue during the transition noting that stability, continuity, and meritocracy will guide the formation of his leadership team.

Marcos promised a new phase focused on the people’s pressing needs.

Several Cabinet secretaries immediately expressed willingness to file courtesy resignations.

These include Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla; Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian; Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda; Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman; Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon; and Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes.

Prior to this, during the May 19 episode of the BBM Podcast, Marcos said the 2025 election results showed Filipinos are “tired of politics” and want more action from leaders.

He acknowledged public disappointment over slow government services in addressing daily needs. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
