PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has rejected calls for his resignation as he underscored his resolve to confront issues rather than evade them.

“I will resign? Ba’t ko gagawin ’yun? At wala sa ugali ko ang tinatakbuhan ang problema. What good will that do?” Marcos said in an interview.

(I will resign? Why would I do that? And it's not in my nature to run away from problems. What good will that do?)

Calls for Marcos’ resignation surfaced after he directed all his Cabinet members and appointed officials to file their respective courtesy resignations as part of a broader government revamp in a bid to enhance the effectiveness of his administration.

Marcos assured the public of a thorough performance review of government officials extending beyond the Cabinet level as part of ongoing efforts to recalibrate his administration to address people’s needs.

“We are looking at the problem deeply,” Marcos said.

“I don’t do things pang optics (for show or appearance). If there is a problem, I like to fix it. So that’s what we are doing. So expect us to be doing a rigorous performance review, not only at the Cabinet level, but even deeper,” the President added.

The chief executive also downplayed a recent survey showing Vice President Sara Duterte with a higher trust rating of 50 percent, while his stood at 32 percent -- an increase from 29 percent in April.

The survey, which was conducted by Pulse Asia from May 6 to 9 among 1,200 registered voters, also showed a 63 percent trust rating for former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Madaming ibang survey (There are other surveys). Let’s not base it on one,” Marcos said.

“Again, let's look at other surveys, know your source. That's always an… imperfect information makes you make imperfect decisions. The more perfect your information, the more perfect your decision will be. That is one source of information, and you have to understand where it's actually coming from,” he added.
