SEVERAL caskets bearing banners with messages against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were found abandoned in various parts of Metro Manila.
The caskets also contained photos of Chinese officials.
In a statement, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said that based on its initial investigation, five caskets were deliberately abandoned in Sta. Cruz, Manila; Barangay 54, Caloocan City; Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City; Barangay Sta. Teresita, Quezon City; and Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.
Police said the caskets were left by unidentified individuals wearing masks who arrived in white and gray vans between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The banners attached to the caskets recovered in Quezon City bore the messages: “CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY (CCP) GREEDY! SALOT” and “GREEDY SALOT.”
The caskets have been taken into police custody for further examination.
The NCRPO said it is treating the incidents as deliberate acts intended to attract attention, provoke public reaction, and possibly create unnecessary alarm.
“The chief PNP has ordered a comprehensive probe to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incidents. NCRPO investigators are now on the ground conducting thorough backtracking and forward-tracking of CCTV footage,” the NCRPO said.
“This cowardly act will not go unpunished. NCRPO will ensure that those behind these acts are identified and that appropriate criminal charges are filed upon the completion of the investigation,” it added.
The NCRPO urged the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and immediately report any suspicious activity or relevant information to the nearest police station. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
