

MANILA – Two people were confirmed dead while some 225,985 families were affected as Severe Tropical Storm Crising (international name Wipha) and the enhanced southwest monsoon drenched most parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
The two confirmed fatalities -- one each in Northern Mindanao and Caraga -- were out of the five reported deaths, according to the agency's latest situation report.
Meanwhile, the three other deaths being verified are composed of two from northern Mindanao and one in Davao region.
Reports of seven missing persons, meanwhile, are being validated as of this posting.
The NDRRMC said the number of affected families is equivalent to 800,864 persons residing in 1,556 barangays in 16 regions nationwide.
Out of this number, 5,921 families or 20,115 individuals are being sheltered in 319 evacuation centers while 16,671 families equivalent to 70,720 persons are being aided outside.
The Office of Civil Defense earlier said affected families include those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.
Three of these were recorded in the National Capital Region, another three in Region 6 (Western Visayas), and one in Mimaropa.
The NDRRMC also reported that 1,234 houses were damaged by the effects of these weather disturbances in Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 2 (Cagayan Valley), Calabarzon, 6 (Western Visayas), 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao Region), 12 (Soccskargen), Caraga, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and the Negros Island Region.
Houses classified as "partially damaged" were placed at 935 while those tagged as "totally damaged" were at 299.
Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was estimated at PHP219.3 million in Regions 1, Mimaropa, 6, 10 and the Cordillera. (PNA)
