IN ONLY four days, almost 900,000 individuals have already applied to become registered voters in time for the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
Data released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that a total of 888,042 individuals have applied to become registered voters between August 1 and 4.
An increasing trend was seen in the first four days of the 10-day voter registration period with 145,181 on Day 1; 227,942 on Day 2; 252,326 on Day 3; and 262,593 on Day 4.
Having the highest number of applicants is Central Luzon with 208,398, followed by Calabarzon with 102,235.
In the National Capital Region, a total of 64,131 have sought to become registered voters.
Given the prevailing trend, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they are optimistic that they will be able to meet the one million projected voter registrants.
"Mukha naman mabi-beat natin ang one million na sinet ng commission," he said in an interview. "Lagpas kalahati na ito ng 1 milyong target natin sa loob ng 10 araw."
(Looks like we might just beat the one million target set by the commission. This already surpasses half of our one million target in just 10 days.)
"Makikita niyo sa lahat ng registration sites sa buong Pilipinas, sadyang blockbuster. Sobrang overwhelming to the point na nagsasara na kami pero nandyan pa din ang pila," added Garcia.
(You can see it in all registration sites across the Philippines -- it's truly a blockbuster. It's so overwhelming that even when we're about to close, people are still lining up.)
Last August 1, the Comelec resumed all voter registration activities nationwide. The registration will run until August 10.
The commission is projecting that it will be able to register at least one million Filipinos after the voter registration period. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
