THE North Luzon Expressway Corporation (NLEX) will temporarily stop collecting toll fees amid the ongoing repair of the Marilao bridge, which is causing heavy traffic flow.

In an advisory, the NLEX said the temporary toll relief will be implemented in the northbound from Balintawak to Meycauayan starting at noon on March 24, 2024.

“This relief will remain in effect until all four lanes of the Marilao northbound area are reopened,” it said.

In another advisory, the NLEX advised motorists that the two middle lanes under the Marilao Interchange Bridge northbound will be closed from 1 p.m. of March 24 to 11 p.m. of March 28 for the repair.

Only the outermost and innermost lanes will be passable.

“Zipper lane will be opened in the southbound direction when conditions allow,” said NLEX.

Motorists are also advised to take alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic along NLEX.

For those heading to Bulacan and Pampanga, take NLEX Karuhatan exit via NLEX Harbor Link Interchange / NLEX Paso de Blas Northbound exit / NLEX Meycauayan northbound exit going to MacArthur Highway then reenter at NLEX Ciudad de Victoria northbound or NLEX Bocaue Interchange.

For those heading to Manila from Pampanga and Bulacan, take NLEX Bocaue Southbound Interchange exit or NLEX Ciudad de Victoria southbound exit, turn right to MacArthur Highway and reenter at NLEX Meycauayan southbound.

The repair of the affected bridge, which was struck by an 18-wheeler truck, may take about two to three weeks, said NLEX.

The truck owner is initially covering the repair expenses. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
