THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has declared the onset of the rainy season.

In a statement on Monday, June 2, 2025, the weather bureau said scattered to widespread rainfall has been observed in the past five days brought about by the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as habagat.

“This signifies the onset of the rainy season across the western sections of Luzon and Visayas,” said Pagasa.

“However, there may still be breaks in the rainfall that extend over a few days or weeks, referred to as monsoon breaks,” it added.

The agency said it will continue to monitor the weather and climate situation in the country, urging the public and all concerned agencies to take precautionary measures against the adverse impacts of the rainy season and other climate and weather events.

In Tuesday's weather advisory, Pagasa said that aside from habagat, an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) is affecting the country.

It said scattered rains will be experienced in the provinces of Ilocos, Benguet, Abra, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga and Tarlac due to habagat, while Metro Manila and other parts of the country will experience a fair weather with high chance of rains in the afternoon until the evening.

Pagasa said Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental will also experience scattered rains, which may cause flash floods and landslides due to the ITCZ.

In Palawan, Visayas and other parts of Mindanao, there will be fair weather with high chance of localized thunderstorms. (TPM/SunStar Philippines)
