THE Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has shelled out more than P145 billion in benefit claims in just the first half of 2025.
Data released by PhilHealth showed that around P145.36 billion in benefit claims were paid during the period from January 1 to June 28, 2025.
"This is 89.04 percent higher than last year during the same period," said PhilHealth.
For the first half of 2024, PhilHealth paid P76.89 billion in benefit claims.
In an earlier statement, PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Edwin Mercado said the state-run health insurer is determined to implement faster claims processing and payment.
"We are out to make sure that we will immediately be able to pay the benefit claims," said Mercado.
He said this is because they want to ensure an uninterrupted delivery of services for all PhilHealth members.
"PhilHealth is making sure every Filipino is getting the most of their health insurance coverage," said Mercado.
In the past, PhilHealth has been heavily criticized over their delayed payments of benefit claims of hospitals. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
